3D Printing 101

Did you know that 3D Printing goes by a few names? These include 3D Printing, Additive Manufacturing, (AM,) Direct Digital Manufacturing, (DDM) and Rapid Prototyping, (RP.) While they all have different origins, the definition is the same: A process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, by laying down many successive thin layers of a material. The industry standard is Additive Manufacturing. This is how it will be referred to in specifications issued by ANSI and ISO. The web is a great place to find information about 3D printing.
